Pet Food Recalls: Blame Bush. No Really
Rick Perlstein has an interesting and persuasive little column on AlterNet today. It goes sort of like this: First they came for the spinach. Then they came for the peanut butter. Then they hurt my dogs and I got pissed.

What about testing these pet foods?
I asked the main office of Flint River Ranch how they tested their pet foods. This was after learning that the Menu foods people discovered the contaminatoin aftter many of their lab animals died from eating it. Here is the reply from Flint River Ranch:

What is the real story behind the pet food recall
I tried to decide why the flurry of wire stories, picked up on websites, TV stations, radio stations, and newspapers around the world, with headlines about the FDA investigating whether or not the contamination of pet food was intentional, was bugging me so much. It's not that I can't see why that angle seems important. It opens the door to criminal legal proceedings, and makes the story sexier, turns it into an investigative piece, a sort of "whodunit" of food safety.

Older Lab thrives on Flint River
We have an older lab that was having problems with her coat and skin. Also,
she was losing weight. The vet said it could be the corn filler in the supermarket
dog food we were giving her.
After one month on Flint River, Daisy has now gained weight and her coat is
beautiful! Skin problems have disappeared so she is comfortable. The vet said:
"This can't be the same dog!"
When we changed to your product, I thought Daisy might reject the new food, but
she gobbled it up! Thanks!

Five toy breeds
I have five toy breed dogs, finicky eaters. Never have I seen them eat any dry
food like they eat your food. They actually growl at each other over the broken
chunks. I don't know what you are doing but keep it up. My guys have been
eating flint river for around 2 months and are so bright, and energetic, clear eyed,
minimum poop!!!!, I can't say enough.
